CEO of +Pluswerk and Digital Entrepreneur

Under the fitting motto "Homecoming", the international Pimcore community met in the picturesque setting of the Salzburg Congress at the end of April 2025. This was no coincidence: it was here, in the city of Mozart, that the Pimcore success story began in the early 2010s.

Our CEO Jens Krumm and Mike Streibl, Managing Director of the +Pluswerk site in Regensburg, were there from +Pluswerk. Together with users, partners and the Pimcore team, they experienced an intensive day full of inspiring impulses and practical insights.

PXM, POCL and Pimcore Studio

The opening by Pimcore CEO Dietmar "Dietz" Rietsch already made a statement: Inspire 2025 was more than just a conference - it was an emotional return to Pimcore's roots. In his usual dynamic keynote, Rietsch looked back on 15 years of Pimcore and at the same time set the course for the future.

The three thematic tracks of the day - Mission Control, Tech Deck and Insight Hub - saw intensive discussions, presentations and debates: New platform features, strategic developments and the use of AI and automation in PIM, DAM and DXP projects.

The three biggest highlights of Inspire 2025 were:

  • The live launch of the new Pimcore Studio
  • From PIM and DAM to PXM - Product Experience Management
  • The new Pimcore Open Core License (POCL) licensing model

The topics in focus

PXM: The next evolutionary stage

A key topic at Inspire was the shift from the classic PIM/DAM approach to comprehensive product experience management (PXM). In his session "Mastering the PXM Evolution", Gartner analyst Mike Lowndes explained why it is no longer enough to simply manage product data - experiences need to be created: personalized, networked, cross-channel.

The PXM framework presented by Gartner focuses on the customer experience. It integrates data management, personalization and analytics in a flexible, modular platform. Pimcore adopts this approach and moves away from the pure management of product information towards real product experiences - and thus becomes a "best-of-suite" solution.

A new chapter in the user experience

The new Pimcore Studio was a real highlight. It brings a revised, modular user interface, which was ceremoniously presented at Inspire 2025 and released immediately. After 1.5 years of development, Pimcore is now not only visually more modern, but also has a new way of thinking in terms of user centricity and usability.

Pimcore Studio offers modern and consistent UI components as well as the option to configure individual dashboards and editing environments - tailored to roles, use cases and processes. Whether data maintenance, editorial work or technical configuration: the first demos in Salzburg showed impressively how intuitive and efficient the new interface feels.

Pimcore Open Core License (POCL)

In addition to the product highlights, the focus was on a strategic step: with the Pimcore Open Core License (POCL), Pimcore is saying goodbye to GPLv3 and opening a new chapter in its licensing policy. This offers companies more legal certainty, transparency and flexibility without sacrificing the advantages of the open source world.

The POCL lowers the entry barriers for companies, provides more clarity in project planning and offers better protection against license errors in sensitive application scenarios. Over 118,000 Pimcore installations worldwide, most of them community-based, are affected by the changeover. As +Pluswerk, we support our customers during the changeover and ensure that Pimcore can continue to be used securely and reliably in the future.

People, opinions, opportunities: +Pluswerk in dialog

Pimcore Inspire is not just a stage for product innovations and strategies - it is above all a place for exchange. For +Pluswerk, participating in Salzburg was a valuable opportunity to talk to partners, customers and the Pimcore team in person and to think together about the future of the platform.

Our CEO Jens Krumm and Mike Streibl from +Pluswerk's Regensburg site made intensive use of the two days: in direct discussions with Dietmar Rietsch (CEO Pimcore), Stefan Gruber (VP Sales), Ashley Laing (VP North America) and the sales team led by Philipp Krüger and Patrick Redtenbacher, the focus was on the prospects for the platform, opportunities in the market and possible joint projects.

The discussions with customers - such as Sebastian Maul from the Munich Olympic Park - made it clear how great the need for flexible, data-driven and future-proof platform solutions is. The great response to the "Pimcore Community Dev Day" initiated by +Pluswerk and CORS in November showed that the developer community is becoming increasingly important in the Pimcore ecosystem.
